When consumed responsibly, edibles can provide a more complete cannabis experience that allows patients to enjoy the therapeutic benefits of their medicine for longer. Edibles can also provide a healthier option for those who may not be comfortable smoking or vaping.

Often, when someone hears the term “weed” edible, they think about baked goods like pot brownies or cannabis cookies. But, when it comes to edibles, the different ways you can consume your medical marijuana go far beyond just baked goods. Before we get into some of the different types of edibles, let’s define what an edible is.

Cannabis or marijuana edibles are foods or drinks that contain cannabinoids. Although there are more than 80 different cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant, the ones most people think about when it comes to edibles are those that contain THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD (cannabidiol), or a combination of both.

Different types of edibles:

  • Baked Goods
  • Gummies
  • Hard Candy
  • Chocolate & Caramels
  • Cannabis-infused drinks

Using Tinctures for Medical Edibles

Although some may not consider THC oils and tinctures to be edibles, they can be used to create DIY edibles. For example, you could add a little bit of THC oil to your favorite cookie recipe or add some THC tincture to your lemonade. A word of caution to those attempting to create their own edibles, be very careful when it comes to dosing. Start slowly and gradually build up until you find the right dose for you.

Potential Benefits of Edibles:

  • Provide flexibility in how you ingest your medical cannabis
  • More effective in boosting appetite and reducing nausea and pain
  • Healthier on your lungs and airways than smoking
  • Therapeutic effects tend to last longer
  • More discreet than smoking or vaping
  • Great for portion control

Medical Marijuana Edibles FAQ

Answering Edible Questions

For those new to edibles, one of the most important things to keep in mind is that it can take longer to feel their effects than smoking or vaping your cannabis. That is why it is best to start slowly with small doses. Keep in mind that you can always consume more, but if you consume too much too quickly, it can result in an unpleasant experience.

The amount of time that this process takes will vary for each person. Depending on a number of factors including the type of edible, its potency, your metabolism, and your tolerance–it can take anywhere from thirty minutes to a few hours to feel the effects.

An exception to this is hard candy and tinctures, which may only take 15 to 45 minutes to kick in. Since the candy and tincture dissolve in your mouth, the THC and CBD are absorbed through the lining under your tongue (sublingually) and can enter your bloodstream much quicker.

How to Find the Right Edibles for You

Gone are the days where smoking your cannabis is the only way to medicate. With Bloom Medicinals’ complete line of edibles, there are tasty options available for every lifestyle.
